Hat-trick of Christian football cup final winners
By Keith Morris
There was a hat-trick of cup finals winners on Saturday (May 10) in the youth league sections of the Norfolk Christian Football League.
Two teams from St Peter’s Cringleford contested the Under-12 final, the Hawks and the Harriers. In a tight game the Hawks came out on top 1-0 with a well-taken goal from Bruce Beckett.
In the Under-14 final Broadland Lads took an early lead against St Peter’s Easton and from then on the goals just rained in from all angles, including hat-tricks from Bradley Nelson and Blake Stone with Matthew Billing and Robert Dean chipping in with one each. A devastating lesson in finishing which was too much for St Peter’s to compete with. The final score was 8-0.
The Under-16 final saw a full-blooded, fiercely contested game between Brooke Adventurers and Norwich Central Baptist Church. Brooke made the brighter opening and deservedly took the lead after 10 minutes through Lewis Clarry. NCBC fought their way back into the game and scored through Joseph Brett just before half-time.
The second half saw a stalemate with both defences looking strong. The match went into extra time and again there seemed no way through for either side until the last two minutes when Ben Allen managed to squeeze one under the Brooke keeper Ben Lambert. Brooke looked for the equaliser but were left exposed at the back and Ben Allen finished the contest with a well-taken second to make NCBC 3-1 winners.
