Norwich church fathers focus on trafficking
Norwich based church Proclaimers used Father’s Day on Sunday June 15 as an opportunity to raise awareness about the issue of human trafficking.
Proclaimers, based in a converted warehouse on
Roundtree Way,
Norwich, gave over a portion of its annual
Father’s Day service on
June 15, 10 am to highlight the work of the international anti-human trafficking organisation,
The A21 Campaign.
The church has supported the work of The A21 campaign for several years now, with the
Lead Pastor Tom Rawls (pictured) serving as a board member for the organisation here in the UK.
With reports of their being over 27 million people trapped in modern day slavery across the globe, human trafficking is now the third most profitable international crime.
Church leader Tom Rawls said: “We believe that Father’s Day is an ideal time to raise awareness of this injustice. With the average age of trafficking victims being just 12 years old it’s important that, as men, especially fathers, grandfathers and uncles, we don’t turn a blind eye to this crime”.
The church shared facts and information about human trafficking during their 90 minute service, and they also provided a chance for people to give towards the work of The A21 Campaign, selling awareness raising merchandise, and providing opportunity for people to write encouraging letters to victims who have been rescued from trafficking and are currently living in one of the organisations transition homes.
