Norfolk church praying for planning green light

2010: Latest Norfolk Christian news includes details of one church which is set to extend its building, another one which is asking its congregation to pray for planning permission and tributes paid to a pioneering county industrial chaplain.

StLawrenceBrundallThe congregation of a Norfolk church has been asked to pray ahead of a planning decision, which will determine whether the medieval building can be extended.

For more than 60 years, the 13th century St Laurence Church in The Street, Brundall, which only has enough space to seat 100 people, has been keen to extend so it can do more for the village.

The church, which is a Grade II* listed building, has asked Broadland District Council for permission to partly demolish the church and to build a new extension so more worshippers can join the congregation, plus offices and a new car park.

Members of the council’s planning committee will meet on Wednesday October 27 to decide whether to grant approval. The congregation has been asked to pray before and during the planning meeting for a favourable outcome

Norfolk church plans to become community hub

An historic Norfolk parish church is set to be extended in the hope of becoming a hub of the community.

Work is set to start on a £300,000 extension at St Mary’s Church in Low Road, Hellesdon, at the end of this year or early 2011. Church leaders have been fundraising for the project for more than a decade and now have enough money to go ahead with the scheme.

The extension will include toilets, disabled-friendly facilities, a small kitchen and meeting rooms. At the moment, there are no toilets in the church and parishioners have had to use the facilities in the nearby parish hall.
