Final East gathering for New Frontiers churches

NewDayKidsWebBy Annabel Rose

2010: For the third and final time, New Frontiers churches from across the East of England and beyond gathered at Pontins at Pakefield, Lowestoft, for a weekend of praise, teaching and mission - Together at East of England.

As well as members from across Norfolk churches, 1200 people had gathered from across 21 English towns and seven different European countries, from October 22 to 25.

There were various children’s activities available on site, Sparklers for the 3-5s, Kids Quest for the 5-11s and Newday East for the 11-18s. The adults heard talks from Mike Betts [one of the leaders at Lowestoft community church] and Edward Buria (the leader of New Frontiers churches in Kenya, and a growing number of nations across East Africa).

Newday East met at the ‘Depot’, Lowestoft Community Church’s building, and their speakers included Johnny Raspin, Jon Beardon and Ben Watkins, their worship was led by Evan Rogers, who taught everyone how to worship, South African style!

On the Saturday afternoon around 100 youth from Newday East went out on to Lowestoft high street, in their green Newday East T-shirts, to spread the Gospel. Many took part in ‘treasure hunting’, asking God to show them people to start conversation with before they went onto the streets, whilst others handed out leaflets, asked people to fill out questionnaires, painted faces, or busked. Before they climbed back onto the coaches to go back onsite, everyone gathered together to praise God, in the middle of the high street. It attracted a lot of attention, and enabled people to start conversations with members of the public who came to watch.

The Sunday afternoon featured a meeting for the adults and youth together, where worship was again led by Evan Rogers, before the whole weekend culminated in a barn dance for the whole family. It provided a fantastic way to end the whole weekend, a social event where everyone was able to relax and have fun.

Although this was the last year Together at East of England will be meeting together at Pontins, there is still much planned for the future. For more information go to www.relationalmission.com where you can subscribe to an email list of news, prayer requests and up-and-coming events.
