Norwich Church enables trip of a lifetime

OrphansIndiaA Norwich church which has established an orphanage and school in India plans to bring a group of the schoolchildren to the city in February 2012.

Grace Christian Fellowship in Norwich has been working in the Andhra Pradesh region of India for many years through their registered charity Hope Community Trust. They have established a school and home for orphans in the area.

Most of the Indian children are from very poor rural villages in Andhra Pradesh and without the opportunities at Emmanuel Grace School many of them would be sold into bonded labour and never receive the benefits of a good education.

A group of 8-10 Indian children from Emmanuel Grace Public School in Andhra Pradesh will travel to Norwich in February next year. The children will visit several schools including Hellesdon High School, Kinsale and Firside Junior schools and Arden Grove Infant and Nursery school. They will take part in many activities that are typical of an English school, such as lessons, assemblies and sports events.

Serena Jones who is co-ordinating the visit said, “The children will hopefully be able to swim in an indoor swimming pool at Hellesdon High School, an experience which none of them will have had the opportunity to do before.”

The Hellesdon schools have been involved in fundraising to help fund the children's visit. Activities involved a non uniform day, where children wore clothes that were the schoolchildrencolours of the Indian flag, an Easter egg raffle and a sponsored penalty shoot out. Hellesdon High School has previously raised money for Emmanuel Grace School through their sponsored walk that raised over £2,000 for the Indian school and helped provide an art and science classroom and food, books and clothing for the children.

Hope Community Trust is also supporting a weekly Indian TV programme called 'The Voice of Emmanuel' which seeks to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to the whole area of Andhra Pradesh, which is India's fifth largest state and has a population of 76 million. The TV shows are already a great success with many people calling for prayer in response to the weekly programmes.

Grace Christian Fellowship meets at Hellesdon High School for its sunday morning service, which starts at 11am.
