Norwich church closes for new beginnings

A Norwich church has announced it is to close its doors after more than 50 years in order to make way for a new church to be formed on the South Park estate in the Eaton area of the city.

South Park Evangelical Church has voted to close, making way for a new church to be formed on the South Park Estate, Eaton.

The church, formerly known as Park Church, has been part of the estate since opening on Ramsey Close in 1959.  For more than 50 years it has run many children's and youth groups – in recent years its annual summer holiday clubs have proven hugely popular.

It has also been a centre for Christian worship and teaching throughout that time; many people have come to know the Lord Jesus Christ through the church's faithful sharing of the Gospel over the years.

Pastor Stuart Bailey, who became pastor of the church in 2008, explains the reason for the closure; "We have always wanted to share the love of God with people in the local area, especially on the South Park Estate.  But we have come realize that we were not sharing that love as we would like to and were not well equipped to do so.

“After much prayer we chose to take the difficult step of closing the existing church so that a new church could be formed and continue the long-standing work of sharing God’s love and the Christian Gospel with the people of Eaton”

South Park will hold its last Sunday Service on 28th February.  Watch out for a new church launching this summer!
