Former English Heritage CEO talks for his Lynn church
Dr Simon Thurley, the historian, author, archaeologist and broadcaster will be speaking about his latest book, Houses of Power, at an event in King’s Lynn in aid of the local church he attends, All Saints, on November 23.
The former Chief Executive of English Heritage and former Director of the Museum of London Dr Simon Thurley will be speaking at King’s Lynn Town Hall on Thursday, November 23, 7.30pm about his 2017 book, Houses of Power.
Dr Simon Thurley, a prominent historian, author and broadcaster attends All Saints Church in King’s Lynn and undertakes the role of Church Councillor and Fabric Officer for the historic church. All Saints will be a beneficiary of the talk along with the Mayor’s charities.
On Simon Thurley's website he describes growing up in a home with parents who were committed Christians and attended church three times on a Sunday, and how he became involved in archeology at an early age as digs were conducted in the garden of his home, a former Strict Baptist Manse.
Houses of Power: The Places that Shaped the Tudor World is Dr Thurley’s latest book which explores the intimate workings of the palaces of the Tudor monarchs.
The book is the result of Simon Thurley's thirty years of research, picking through architectural digs, and examining financial accounts, original plans and drawings to reconstruct the great Tudor houses and understand how their monarchs shaped their lives.
