LovingByGivingBackpacks750Norwich Christian charity donates ex-prison survival kit

This year a Norfolk-based Christian charity has issued urban survival packs to 65 ex-offenders being released from HMP Norwich with no fixed abode.  As winter approaches they are appealing for donations of survival kit items.

The Christian charity, Loving by Giving, works with HMP Norwich to provide urban survival kits to ex-offenders being released from prison with no fixed abode.  The backpacks contain 15 essential items for life on the streets including a sleeping bag, water bottle and supermarket voucher.

Alison Wernham, Project Co-ordinator for Loving by Giving, said: “As the evenings draw in and the hot summer begins to fade, thoughts begin to turn to winter. At Loving by Giving we are keen to ensure the stock of items for the urban survival packs is maintained especially as the demand for them will increase over the winter.

“Backpacks have now been issued to 65 offenders being released from HMP Norwich with no fixed abode. Over the last six months the charity has been actively involved with developing links with the prison and Visitor Services run by Spurgeons Children’s Charity."

Loving by Giving is a charity that works to relieve poverty and change people’s lives practically.  As well as being a charity, there is also a ‘Loving is Giving’ church which meets in West Costessey Hall on the Queen’s Hill Estate in Costessey.

Loving By Giving is continuing to look for churches, organisations and individuals who are willing to donate items or would consider having a collection bin where items could be donated.

Items that the charity are appealing for include:

  • Toothbrush, toothpaste, shower gel, hand towel, shaving foam, safety razors
  • Cereal bars, notepad and pen, refillable water bottle, £5 supermarket voucher
  • Men’s waterproof jacket, warm hat, socks and gloves
  • Sleeping bags
  • Financial donations.
