Call to prayer

Full size tabernacle available for Norfolk groups

As Thy Kingdom Come – 10 Days of prayer between Ascension Day and Pentecost – approaches, Call to Prayer will once again be making their full-size tabernacle available for groups or individuals to meet for prayer at the House of Prayer in Norwich.

This is the third year that Call to Prayer has offered the tabernacle for use over these 10 days, although it has been a wonderful space for worship as well as a highly effective teaching resource for many years. Many visitors have come in not knowing what to expect; they may even have wondered, ‘What does a replica of this Old Testament place of worship have to do with the church today?’ This and many other questions may be answered during their visit – which can include taking a short teaching tour. People who have wondered this have been amazed, delighted, inspired by their visit, for the tabernacle is a place for focus upon the finished work of Christ.

In the previous two years, several church groups have met to pray in the tabernacle, and some have found that meeting to pray in this unique environment – away from their usual surroundings – can be very free-ing, and as more groups and individuals pray together during this concentrated period there is a build-up of prayer and of unity in the Spirit as we look towards Pentecost.

People may be led to pray for the nation, the church, our city of Norwich or their own local community – or for the work of different groups who help us in our daily lives, such as the NHS, the police, or those involved in education. The House of Prayer has many resources to help us in our prayers, including some ideas based on Daniel Ch 9 and a 10-day prayer booklet with blessings and declarations, based on The Lord’s Prayer – His Kingdom Come written by Jill Gower, director of Call to Prayer.

The tabernacle is open for people to book slots for prayer and worship during the 10 Days from 30 May to 9 June; however, it will also be open for a few days either side of the 10 days; it will be up from Monday 20 May until mid-June for prayer or for groups to enjoy a teaching tour led by Jill Gower or one of the Call to Prayer team.

The venue is House of Prayer, Fishergate, Norwich NR3 1SE.
