AlexIrving
Norwich curate to take up teaching post

Rev Dr Alex Irving is moving on from his role as curate at St Stephen's church in Norwich for an appointment as lecturer at St Mellitus College.

Rev Dr Alex Irving said, "I came to Norwich in 2005 to study at the UEA. I then worked at Holy Trinity, Norwich as a pastoral assistant for two years during which time I started the discernment process with the Church of England. I moved to London to study at the London School of Theology (LST) from where I moved to Oxford to begin ordination training and undertake a PhD. I met Sophie at LST, and we married in 2015 and have a daughter called Rachael who was born in 2018.

"Sophie and I moved back to Norwich in 2017 to serve a curacy at St Stephen's in the city centre. During this time, I have worked on the Richard Caister Project, which has moved online owing to restrictions of public gatherings, but the display is still up in the Church building. I also started a resource, Open Faith, to help believers engage with certain aspects of our tradition.

"My doctoral thesis was published at T.F. Torrance's Reconstruction of Natural Theology: Christ and Cognition and another book (God, Freedom and the Body of Christ: Toward a Theology of the Church) is coming out later this year. Currently I am working on a new project due to be published in 2021 We Believe: Exploring the Nicene Creed. I am very much looking forward to the new challenge of theological education and ministerial development with St Mellitus.

"I have enjoyed my time at St Stephen's and in Norwich Diocese immensely and hope to stay in close contact in the future."
