Spring walking challenge grows Norfolk charities

Representatives of 23 charities gathered at Norwich Cathedral for the launch of a 375-mile fundraising walking challenge.

Michael Gurney, the High Sherriff of Norfolk, joined Jane Hedges, the Dean of Norwich Cathedral, to set off the event. It will see teams walking the equivalent of the distance between Norwich and Notre Dame in Paris.

James Bagge, who founded Walking4Norfolk in 2018, said: "A variety of distances were covered on the first day, with the Garage Trust team covering 68 miles while others have just done one or two. The field is spread.”

Each participant will need to walk over six miles a day for two months to reach the total of 375 required.
Charities taking part include the Matthew Project, St Martin’s Housing Trust and Community Chaplaincy Norfolk.

Sarah King, fundraising and events officer for The Matthew Project, said: "It was nice because it was the first time people had met face-to-face for such a long time. It was really good speaking to other charities."

You can support the charities through the Walking 4 Norfolk website here.
