Ormesby Chapel Lego cafe builds community

The Chapel, Ormesby was once again packed out with families enjoying Lego, cakes and community during the October half-term break.

The cafe was set up by Light of Life Baptist Church in Ormesby near Great Yarmouth and has been running for around 7 years during school holidays. During the sessions, which are held in Light of Life's building The Chapel, copious amounts of Lego are poured into large play trays for children (and keen adults) to build whatever they choose. There is also Duplo for the younger children as well as arts and crafts. Drinks are provided along with home-baked cakes given by members of the church.

We are often at full capacity within the first 15 minutes of being open! One family told us this half term how welcoming and safe they felt being within the church building.”

Light of Life Baptist Church are well known locally for holding events, and see the Lego Cafe as being an opportunity to come alongside their community. “It's about opening up the doors of our church” observes Gemma, “an opportunity to share our safe space with everybody. It's about having fun. It's about conversations. But more importantly it's about creating relationships with people who do not yet know of the love of Christ. We don't charge for the event, we do however encourage people to bring an item for our local food bank as a way of paying it forward, and helping support the community together.”
